Blessings or Lack Of?

Dear friend --

Setting the example of contentment in our own circumstances can help our daughters learn to appreciate God's dispensations of provisions in HIS children's lives. Sometimes our children have heard us complain about what we don't have and have learned to look for satisfaction in money or possessions.

Sometimes we get confused and assume things that money can buy are "blessings" -- usually because that's what we covet. We cannot see the hearts of "wealthy" people who do not know the Savior -- and therefore cannot judge the pain or emptiness that may afflict them. Money is cold comfort to parents whose children are wayward -- or who are diagnosed with an untreatable disease.

Sometimes we spur limited bank accounts and "life-on-the-edge" because living dependently on the God who is -- but not always in our line of vision -- is scarey.

*Practicing* an attitude of gratitude is the first step in enjoying the bountiful presence of the Lord and Savior who loves us enough to make HIS home in our humble hearts.

Focusing on what HE has KEPT out of my life is also a powerful weapon to douse the "grumbles!"

Once when I was distressed about "slim pickin's" and was on a good grouse about this and that and complaining about being "poor," (which in this day and age is sometimes silly!) God reminded me that HIS son was poor while he walked in Israel --

By his grace I will not die naked and abandoned in agony on a Roman cross -- but in whatever circumstances, HE will be my constant companion, in plenty or want -- Over and over, when I am fearful about my end, God directs me to Matthew 6:25-34.

I challenge your daughter to meditate upon those verses -- memorize them -- and when she is tempted to look at what God is doing for others, to refocus her eyes on what HE promises to do for her and ask, "What more do I want?" -- and why?

Finally God is teaching me to consider how I use the wealth HE does give -- TIME and health and strength -- and yes MONEY -- for if we have all that is required to enjoy a computer and the Internet, we have far more than many. How ARE we spending the resources God lavishes on us? Ask your daughter to study Malachi very carefully.

Challenge her to see that God's people often rob God and anger HIM -- yet time and time again HE restores and blesses us with everything we need! (3:6-17)

Pray that Grace and peace are multiplied to your daughter in the knowledge of God and of Jesus her very REAL LORD; seeing that His divine power has granted her everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. (2 Pet 1:2-3) And pray for her to grow up into the faith for which Christ wishes to fit her.
