Let Go of Locust Damage!

Dear Shel;

Wish we could have coffee; I just poured myself a cup that I hope doesn't get cold while I get on my favorite soapbox.
First,
*It is God who teaches our children, we have the privilege of repeating the lessons, and living out the truth before them. (Daniel 2:21-22)
*It is God who places the love on obedience to HIS will in the hearts of daughters who are enamored by the world.(Jeremiah 24:7)
Next,
*A generation or so ago, moms stayed home, and because many did not love God with their whole hearts, they taught POOR lessons about homemaking. It was the generation of stay-at-home women who nurtured the restless uyoung women who seem to loose their way until they find Christ. Paul's words are to the point:
"For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2 Tim 3:6-7)

Here's MY Comfort:
WHEN our daughters -- and our sons find CHRIST, they delight to come under HIS authority. Over and over, I pray this for my children, that Jesus Christ is REAL to them and that HE rules from the throne of their hearts and not some dumb idol like a "career."

Here's a hug and some suggested and foolproof lessons:
You ask, "How do you teach your daughters to want to be moms at home and still encourage them to pursue their interests?"
#1 LOVING the word of God is the first step in teaching our young women, ALL of them. It is your love for His word that will be the first powerful tool He will give you to teach your daughters, NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE!
#2 Obeying WITH JOY the revealed will of God is the next step that makes a more powerful lesson plan than any curriculum, even nifty ones like "rubies"
#3 Seeking to know more and more of God is a powerful object lesson for inquisitive littel minds. Tel THEM about your prayers, ask them to pray for you and don't hide your joy when God answers and directs you.

I hate to tell you this, but MANY of our daughters have been determined to do things on their own for a lONG time, some are just more restrained and careful in our company! Therefore, I feel the urgence to pray, pray , pray before I speak, speak, speak.

Just this AM -- I got knocked back by one nitpicking "nothing" after another, an I coped an attitude! Today was not going MY way! God stopped before I opened my mouth to let my husband and duaghter KNOW how frustrated I was -- and gave me the choice: praise or pout?
I chose praise, whether my daughter knew it or not, she will remember [maybe] a cheerful busy mom one morning when NOTHING went her way. Whether God calls her to a career or blesses her in another path, I want her to KNOW my God and delight in HIS will.
[Of course this goes for my WONDERFUL son who is very much about his own business -- something he has done from the moment he opend his precious eyes and saw the world;-) If he doesn't KNOW CHrist as Savior and Lord, what difference will his achievements, personal or profession matter in eternity?]

Remember children are a heritage from the Lord, we need to prepare our children that God may say no to a few and give them spiritual rather than real children. Will your daughters be content with the will of God, if He says "No" to WHATEVER their dreams are? That's a lesson plan in itself that we would do well to train our daughters -- because marrying "prince charming" [which I did] is just the beginning of an adventure for which NONE of us is adequately prepared. (Can I get an "AMEN?"}

DON'T CONSIDIER THE ZINGER THAT THE ENEMY SENT YOU! Let your heart break over the things that break God's heart, Shel. If your daughters KNOW Christ, HE will GUIDE them. (Isaiah 40:10-11)

Whatever UNWISE choices you made, or did not make,
GOD KNEW and had a plan! AND when the time was right, HE brought your situation to JUST where it is now! SO, CONFESS foolishness, willfulness, or anything else that The Lord God brings gently to your mind. REPENT from self-will and SURRENDER in wonder to what HE is gonna do. WOW! Ad keep me posted -- because you will encourage my steps and keep me from stumbling when I consider what might await my children.(Psalm 37)

You asked for ADVICE: I LIKE your verse from Joel -- for it drew me to study His word -- I KNEW something had been in my barn! I reprint some powerful words for the encouragement of those who reading with heavy hearts:

"Yet even now," declares the LORD, "Return to me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping, and mourning; And rend your heart and not your garments. "Now return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness, and relenting of evil. Who knows whether He will {not} turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him, {even} a grain offering and a libation for the LORD your God? . . . "Then I will make up to you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the creeping locust, the stripping locust, and the gnawing locust, My great army which I sent among you. "And you shall have plenty to eat and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; then My people will never be put to shame. "Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is no other; and My people will never be put to shame.
(Joel 2:12-14, 25-27)

The Scripture you love doesn't limit the teacher to be only moms & daughters -- and you just taught a bunch of young women who read your post!

In joyful expectation that JESUS CHRIST will do exceedingly, abundantly MORE than you can ask or imagine, I am,
Barbara Smith
