Maybe this will encourage some of you: Dont give up on praying for your special needs children! What may seem impossible, isn't with the Lord!
I have been praying that my dd would have a hunger for the Lord and she is diving into the scriptures. I have prayed that she would find a need to learn, and she is starting to do more with her school work. I have prayed for healing, and though she hasn't been healed completely she has been growing by leaps and bounds, learning to look to God as her help in times of need. It's like she is finally understanding and applying some of what she has been taught to her heart. I prayed for a friend, and God had some friends who seem to have compassion and understanding toward her fears of people with her selective mutism. Don't give up! God does and will provide for the needs of our children and He is one who forms the hearts of all including our children!

I have posted many times about the Feingold Program.

For those not familiar with it, by removing all the petroleum (crude oil - like what goes in your car) from my son's diet, he lost all his ADHD symptoms. It seems that petroleum in food can cause people to lose self-control. The symptoms include melt-downs, over-the-top emotions, constantly needing to move (like the contantly tapping foot, etc), hitting, biting, inability to respond correctly to lovingly administrated Biblical discipline. For some people, even a miniscule amount of petroleum is enough to cause a huge reaction.

Removing petroleum from the diet can cause a real change in many people. My dh even got a raise and a promotion after being on the Feingold Programm for 6 weeks. Even better, he learned how to sit still and how to deal responsibly with frustration. How much better for my children to learn this at a young age!

But petroleum can be hidden in foods. It is in most artificial flavors, artificial colors, and the preservatives BHA, BHT, and TBHQ. But those don't always have to be listed on the ingredient list. So avoiding them can be difficult.

The Feingold Association has volunteers who contact manufacturers and find out how their products are made. They make sure that baked products aren't made on pans sprayed with a pan spray that is preserved with a petrol-chemical. They make sure the packaging isn't sprayed with a preservative that will leech into the food. All the foods they find to be "safe" - ie. petroleum-free - they list in their Shopping Guide. That Shopping Guide is published and made available to all association members.

You can read more about the Program at http://www.feingold.org

If you are interested in joining the Association and trying the Feingold Program for yourself but are unable to afford the membership fee, a Feingold mom (not me) is giving away a one year membership on her blog. You can read here to find out how to be entered to win: http://allnaturalmomof3.blogspot.com/

If you have any questions about Feingold, please feel free to pm me!

This article may have some things you don't agree with (isn't written really from a Christian point of view).

I wonder, though, what you wish someone had told you about parenting a special needs child. It also has some interesting nuggets like: ". A study released a couple of years ago found that autism moms have stress levels similar to combat soldiers."

What would you change or add or agree with or disagree with?

CHFWeb Trading Post Guidelines

First a note to those involved in regular commerce on the web: We have always operated CHFWeb freely as a ministry and have never profited from it at all. We offer banner advertising to help pay for some of the ever-increasing costs but revenue from this has not covered expenses. Thus most would agree that it is unreasonable for dealers and small businesses to materially profit from our efforts without sharing in the costs associated with maintaining this area. --so if you desire to use the Trading Post as a business or means of profiting, we ask that you email us for advertising rates and we welcome your active involvement in covering the expenses of this venture!

The CHFWeb Trading Post is for CHFWeb participants to buy, sell, or trade materials of interest to Christian homeschooling families. This area is provided free of charge for individuals who are already participating in the other areas of CHFWeb. (Messages by individuals who are only posting on the Trading Post area, and not involved in other areas of CHFWeb, will be removed.)

Dealers or participants who are doing this as a business should email us for our advertising rates at: tamara.eaton@gmail.com .

Please use the subject line to identify your product and keep your post short and to the point! Please include prices for each item and note if this includes shipping charges. Please make sure you include your email address so participants can email you to work out details.

**We ask that participants not post more than one message on the Trading Post a day (you're welcome, however, to list more than one item in your message).**

This section is not for discussions, you should use email to exchange shipping addresses and work out arrangements or ask further questions. All discussions will be removed from this section.

CHFWeb is not responsible for any of these transactions. If you have a problem with one of the participants here, please make every attempt to work it out by email. We specify this board is for CHFWeb participants since we have confidence that the vast majority of Christian homeschooling families here will be honest and fair in their transactions, but in the rare case there is a problem, please email us at tamara.eaton@gmail.com so others will be aware and learn from your mistake!

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

While going to college is, itself, a debatable subject...I noticed this book: _How to Stay a Christian in College_, by J. Budziszewski (don't ask me how to pronounce it <wry smile>) published by TH1NK, PO Box 35001, Colorado Springs, CO 80935, imprint of NavPress, ISBN 1 57683 510 3

It is written to help a Christian kid going to college. I, however, think that it would help any thinking teen, as well -- whether they were homeschooled and are now in public school (like our son) or just a thinker or dually enrolled or have unsaved friends, family or teachers.

It views the various 'arguments' that can derail a kid and helps them to think it through Biblically and logically.

For example: "Like every naturalist, (Richard) Lewontin (Harvard paleontologist) believes that the material world of nature is all there is, but he also confesses to something many of his fellow naturalists would rather deny. The confession is that they all belive in naturalism *in spite of* the evidence, not because of it. For example, even though the evidence strongly suggests that living things are the result of intelligent design, naturalists are desperate to prove they can't be. Most of us would call the urge to ignore evidence 'prejudice'. Strangely, Lewontin calls it 'taking the side of science'! See for yourself:

'We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs,...in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counterintuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door." 5 ("Billions and Billions of Demons", The New York Review of Books, January 9, 1997, pp 28-32)

"Home-schoolers bring certain skills -- motivation, curiosity, the capacity to be responsible for their education -- that high schools don't induce very well."

Here's a site to help you fill out the FAFSA. My neighbor works in admissions in a college and she says there's a place somewhere online where you fill in the info ahead of time and they *estimate* how much you will be required to pay toward college -- then you can work on grants and scholarships. She hasn't given me the exact site, but here's a starting point:
