“Do what is good; avoid what is evil.” That’s the message today. But what lengths Jesus suggests we should go to avoid evil! Cutting off our hands & feet…plucking out eyes…it seems extreme! Jesus has been very clear about the need to stay away from sin, and especially from teaching others that sinful behavior is OK. We have a great responsibility as parents, teachers, and most of all as professed Christians to avoid sin, so that we don’t teach others to sin.

Good morning! Another long day ahead, but now I'm half way through the term at the university! I guess I'll make it to July... 
I was asked by my dept. head if I would teach AP Environmental Science next year. I really would enjoy that...but it would entail a lot of preparation time this summer. I think I will say yes, though...I have nothing of import to do this summer, and teaching that class will make the next couple of years fun for me. It's a college level course, and actually in my field of training, so it could be a springboard to offering a college level environmental science at a local college sometime after retirement...
My plan for today:
Coffee & quiet
Take glassware out of dishwasher and return to classroom
Set up lab for today
Teach (calories in food lab in chem; titrations in period 4 honors; pH in period 6 honors)
Grade tests
Grade portfolios
Grade lab reports
Grade college work
Dinner at Farmer's Market
Chem class at FP

Good morning!
That's a cool opportunity, Lisa! I never took a full course on environmental science, but I've read some about it and I think it's fascinating. Would you teach this instead of chemistry, then?
Just an average, ordinary Thursday here...I don't even think I'm going to make a list. All I have on the agenda is work, gym, and music rehearsal tonight. Anything else will be a bonus.

Good morning ladies!
No list for me today. I'll be spending a good chunk of the day in the car and a doctor's office for Stephen's 7 month check-up at the endocrinologist. It's about an hour and a half away through heavy traffic and of course, it's supposed to storm all day. Fun, fun!
I am planning on some light school with Emily and then this afternoon try and get my linen closet cleaned out and organized. And do some sewing.

Lisa, I appreciate your post, we do need to watch out for who is watching us.
Not much today - just school work - going to try to finish the rest today, since my weekly plans with my friend got cancelled - she has strep. I should get up and go to dgd's 5th grade graduation, but it's at 8, and I'm simply not up to it. I did go to her dance recital last night. Tonight we have Divorce Care.
Here's my short list:
up/normal stuff
quiet time
walk - made it 2 miles yesterday, I think I'll do the same today
b/l prep
school work the rest of the day
Divorce Care tonight
My kids' last day of work for the school year is today. They (all three, dd, ds, and dd of a different mother - the young lady who lives with us) all three work as para-pros at a the same elementary school dgd is graduating from today. They all have very busy summers planned:
DD is going on a 4 week mission trip to Sierra Leone, preceded by 2 weeks training camp
DS is taking summer school classes towards certification and that will be beneficial towards his master's degree
dd(adopted is spending time with her mother (home from Papua New Guinea for the summer), going to the training camp for dd's mission trip as a "Barnabas" for two weeks - she'll be home for the month of July, then off to Michigan to photograph her sister's wedding and see her dad and brothers who are coming home for it. She's very excited. She didn't think she would see her family until next year.
The kids are busier than I am this summer! I just have school, a short trip July 4th week, then a longer trip to North Carolina and Tennessee for a family reunion and to see dh's son, dil and dgs.

I'm tired just reading all of everyone's plans!  Today is the first day of dd2's summer vacation so part of the morning will be spent trying to keep ds2 and the pup semi-quiet, lol. It's ds1's last day of school (YAY!) and dh has a four day weekend. Should be awesome! Happy Thursday, all!

I think because of her disabilities (non verbal, visually impaired, wheelchair, develpmentally more like a baby or toddler), VNS wouldn't really improve her life. Benefit probably wouldn't outweigh risks of surgery. She was on Keppra for awhile, then got off that when they added Depakote. Still on Depakote and phenobarbital--if she gets completely off topamax it will be nice just to have fewer meds and less wear and tear on the liver that has to process 'em. I'm curious if she'll start to sweat (she doesn't now and that is a possible side effect of topamax) or if her appetite will change (I think topamax is supposed to suppress it).

We practice open communion, but the way you describe the invitation to partake would leave me unsettled also. I probably would have done exactly as you did, took part, and then felt uneasy later as I thought about it more.
I don't think you did anything wrong, but I do think you can take something away from it to help you decide in the future with some experience under your belt. Perhaps it was some unfortunate wording in the moment, but "next time" you would decline.
I'm sensing you want to avoid a debate on open communion, and I do too. It just is something where there are two very different opinions. Maybe deciding where you are on that issue would help in the future.

Like when you say: "his corrupt friends"...do his friends know the Lord? Do you know his friends? Do you know their parents?
It may be that you also need to pull his friends *toward* you, instead of cutting them completely off, depending on the situation.

Yes! My old policy (especially with my regular Kindle) was to download them, then only keep the ones I'm interested in reading fairly soon on the actual device --the rest got deleted and moved to archives. But now on my Kindle Fire I have so many that look good that I haven't removed very many lately!
I'm embarrassed to admit how many Kindle books I actually have in my archives now --the vast majority were free for a limited time.
Plus, I think of how much money I'm saving -- less gas used by not driving to the library weekly anymore (I can even use our library's digital library services for ebooks!), no need to keep buying more lumber for more wall to wall bookshelves, etc.,

They went to SC for a fishing trip. I have 4 full days to clean the house! I have a hard time doing big projects when dh is underfoot (he is home full time). Yesterday I got my herb garden planted, I have new plants out on the back deck, I have geraniums planted in 7 hanging baskets on the front porch, I have the hummingbird feeds out, I cleaned out the birdhouses so they are now ready for new moms, I brought all my houseplants back in after a 2 week stint on the back deck for a little fresh air, sunshine and a little fertilizer
Today and tomorrow will be a complete dejunking, organizing and cleaning of the laundry room, kitchen and dining room. This will included going through the freezers, refrig and pantry to see what I have and what I need. In the dining room is where all the homeschooling stuff is and we are done for the year so now is a good time to go through that. They rest of the house only needs normal cleaning stuff done.
Saturday I will be cleaning my desk area (genealogy stuff) and I will be doing the paperwork for Jimmy's operators license (checkoff sheets, logs required by GA), ordering Jimmy's standardized test, and putting together Jimmy and Kristin's portfolio and transcripts (needed for Kristin to get into college). Kristin is getting ready to take her GED (needed so that we will qualify for the HOPE scholarship as soon as she starts, if not, homeschoolers don't qualify until they have 30 semester hours).

I got tired just reading this!
BUT...I salute you. Coincidentally, my dh and ds are also away, in Tennessee this week.
I have not been productive according to my list, even though I had big plans: clean out a cabinet in the basement, go through the extra containers and pare them down, vegetable planting, homeschool shelf cleaning, grades to computer and transcript upgrading.
Here's what dd and I HAVE done: cooked together, played games, prayed together, read books together, grocery shopping, swim class (for her), and today we are going for our herbs and tomato plants.
So, it's been a "different" productive, I guess...we're also dodging thunderstorms, lol.
Kudos to you for attacking your projects!
After reading your post, maybe I'll slink over to the huge bin of plastic containers and address THAT mess, at least.

My two daughters that still live at home work so I am in the house by myself. I am having such a good time! I am throwing out tons of stuff with no one around to object! They won't even miss it, that's the funny part.

I have a friend who got married later in life. Her and her DH are in their mid 40s and have never been married before. They both had houses with everything they need so they set up a registry where people could give them flyer miles for their honeymoon.

I think it is rude as well; however, having never heard of a 'honeymoon registry' I googled the term and apparently it is an acceptable/legit thing. Part of the changing with the times, I guess.

I had never heard of it before, and wondering if it also meant there was (or was not) a bridal registry or wedding gift registry.
I talked with my mom the other day and she said they just want money towards their honeymoon (no wedding gifts). My brother is my age and she is much younger but they both have lived on their own and don't need anything. So I'm imaging that's why they chose to do it this way.

Does anyone know of a song that is about Jesus' hands and what He did with them?
My friend at Word of Life used to sing it with her guitar...
I can't remember much of the lyrics, but am pretty sure it has the words in it: "Hands, those precious hands..." and mentions Calvary.
Any clues?

I had my monthly OB appointment yesterday and my BP was a little high - 148 over 84. My BP is generally really low. So, the doctor wants to see me back in two weeks instead of four to recheck it. He also said that if I have any really bad headaches between now and then, to call them. I've had several pretty bad headaches over the last month or so. He wants my BP below 140 over 90.
I'm pretty sure that all of this is due to stress and lack of sleep. With my house in shambles due to the floors being refinished, I have been pretty stressed out. I've also not been sleeping well for a couple months now and, on top of that, I have had to sleep away from home and my CPAP machine for several nights due to fumes from chemicals DH is using on the floor. One such night was the night before my appointment. Also, I've been working extra shifts at work each week so we can save up money to replace our A/C that died.
So, I'm really praying that now that the floors are done (he finished yesterday) and we can move the furniture back on Sunday, my stess level will go way down. I'm hoping to get my house back in order next week. I also am only working one day next week, so that should help, too.
Please pray that my BP would go back down and that the baby will be healthy. I'm 16 weeks today and praying the rest of the pregancy goes smoothly.

Simplistic, Stacy, but why can't you bring your CPAP machine with you? Usually, there's a way to pack it up and a little backback thingie to put it in.
