Welcome back! It has been extra slow around here. I think it is a combo of summertime and people not being able to get on.

Do you all have cornhole where you are? Hillbilly golf? These are big hits around here. Set out a few cornhole sets and have a tournament and it can last for hours! I like hillbilly golf because it is something that even I can do. I have horrible aim, but can normally hit at least one of the levels.

Good morning! It's a rainy day, good for getting indoor things done. Today is the last day of school in our district, and the Family Fair is this weekend. That involves an amusement park set up a short walk from our house and loud music blaring till 10 pm or so, snarled traffic on the main drag, and folks trying to park in town wherever they can. It's festive and mildly annoying at the same time. Laughing

Plan for today includes:

Coffee & quiet
Plan menus for the week
Make grocery list
Grocery store
Bank
Work on cleaning my office
5 pm YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) reception

Dh is going to Maine for a bike ride Saturday and returning Sunday. Saturday is the fireworks night at the fair. The one part of the fair that is awesome is that the fireworks are set off at the far end of the field by our house, so we have a spectacular view! Dd, her new boyfriend, and his 11 yo ds are planning to spend the afternoon at the fair, and then come here for a campfire with banana boats or smores, and then to watch the fireworks! Fun!

Sunday will be a quiet day, with no particular plans. There's plenty of work to be done in the garden, so I will spend some time on that. There are bills and budgeting to do. And church at 11 am, if I don't get to 6:30 service on Saturday...

What's going on at your house?

Have a wonderful weekend! SOAP for all of you.

This morning Jonah and I made an old favorite we haven't in probably a year: Dutch Babies. It honestly was simple, we've decided to make it a Friday morning breakfast ritual.

Tonight there is a free outdoor movie "The Great Race" showing..I'm alone with Jonah and contemplating whether it is something he can see. Is anyone familiar?

The remainder of the weekend will be split between making sure Jonah has enough early a.m. outdoor playtime in the heat (it feels like a HOT wet blanket engulfs you as soon as you step outside) and finishing prep for homeschooling this fall.

Peace

Morning! Today is an at-home day. DS leaves for camp on Sunday, so I need to help him finish packing. I love that they encourage the boys to do their own packing, so I can take more of an observer role. I'm just there to help him find things and read off his list to him. He does the rest. I think it is a good skill to have!

In addition to DS leaving for camp, my DH is also going to be out of town for a few days next week. That leaves just me, DD, and Jack for three days. My mom is going to take Jack for one of those days so that DD and I can have some "girl time". Anyone have a suggestion for what we can do on very little money? DD is eleven and pretty girly. I'd like to have a whole day of stuff planned.

I am still waiting to hear from churches that we have met with about having our co-op there next year. I'm praying to have an answer, soon!

Lisa, the festival sounds like so much fun! I miss fireworks. We never seem to see them here for the 4th of July any more.

Jamie, I'm off to google Dutch babies! Smile That's such a neat ritual to start with him. I've not heard of the movie, and it's not on kids-in-mind.com, either. (That's my go-to to check out movies.)

Stacy, what fun for you and your dd! Smile Things that come to mind are doing a mani/pedi at home (or a whole spa day kind of thing with facials, etc), a tea party, watching a girlie movie together as part of a slumber party, crafts (maybe make a pretty cover for a new diary), etc. Most of these things could be done with things you already have around the house. Smile

So... I got *nothing* done from my list this week! Surprised Dh and I got back on Tuesday evening, dd was sick Wednesday and yesterday and I helped her and took care of dgs. My house was a pit! Laughing Andrew and Luke helped me this morning so it's looking a lot better. There are a lot of little things that I need to plug away at, so that will probably be my focus for the next few days. Luke has a meeting at church tomorrow for a youth retreat coming up and I need to grocery shop. Hopefully it will work for me to drop him off and get that done during the meeting. Nothing else out of the ordinary planned for the weekend. Smile

I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. ~Phil 3:13-14~

Jamie, I found another website (while checking a movie for ds) and it did have The Great Race on it.

Would anyone like to discuss how to teach a Gospel? ... I read something really interesting recently about the book of Mark. Let's see if I can get this straight. ... Here's the really fascinating part. Up until this century, many scholars tended to see Mark as a collection of important stories of Jesus' ministry with sort of "filler" material gluing it all together. But this "filler" material apparently has recently taken on new meaning since C.H. Dodd published a paper on it in the 1930's.
