Political correctness has just reached the pinnacle of ridiculousness.

#alllivesmatter is not good enough?

....and then, trying to be inclusive, the new Star Trek franchise will have a story line where Sulu is gay. But that isn't right either because it is twisting the original vision of the creator.

Even when you try, it isn't right or good enough. The irony of it all is boundless.

Just another reason to stick with an unchanging God. At least you can get it right there.

What's the problem with blacklivesmatter, Tracey? I really don't get this frustration that people have.

Of course all lives matter. But there isn't an implicit "only" in front of black lives matter. I figure it this way: if I say Filipinolivesmatter, i'm not saying Australian lives or US lives or the lives of my family don't matter. Or - bangaldeshigarmentworkerslivesmatter : that's not saying they're more important than the lives of people who buy clothes, or work in another industry. I'm drawing attention to particular people.

I just don't get the frustration with the blacklivesmatter, I just don't. Please, someone enlighten me.

I'm not Tracy, and I don't know that I particularly understand her specific point, but when I riff off her thoughts, personally, I don't think it's an issue with blacklivesmatter. I think most folks are just sick of all the division of any sort...there just seems to be an increase of violence and hatred all around. There is a feeling that isn't enough to open your home to gays and have meaningful relationships with them; you have to embrace the gay lifestyle. It isn't enough to be "colorblind" in your day to day interactions with the people of all races around you; you have to believe that police are bad people, whether or not a black guy broke the law and threatened a police offer...or conversely, it isn't enough to realize that some police officers are corrupt, you have to hate all of them because a black guy got shot.

We are rapidly becoming a society where we can't have differing opinions without being accused of hatred or some sort of phobia.

We are rapidly moving from a society that lives in the freedoms guaranteed by our Bill of Rights to the society pictured in "1984" and similar books where our very thoughts must fall in line. If I put a blacklivesmatter sign in my front yard, and my neighbor puts a policelivesmatter in his (or vice versa), we're automatically at odds with one another. If we both had and alllivesmatter sign out front, we'd be on the same side. That's sort of what I see in Tracy's post. Looking for points of unity rather than more division.

I'm sure I've taken her thoughts down a rabbit trail, and my own thoughts are not even coherent yet. I've got much stress in my personal life right now, but I'm feeling so frustrated and helpless at the way things are going in society at large as well. If I had any extra money, I'd be really tempted to find a little island somewhere and move myself and my family to a place where we could figuratively stick our heads in the sand and ignore all the ugliness. I livein a place sort of "out" from the cities. The protests and highway blockages in Atlanta are almost an hour away. I feel safe in my home and my neighborhood, but I know that some of that is an illusion. I know for a fact that our sheriff's dept. is corrupt, so if things were to move up this way, I don't know what sorts of things might happen. We just live in scary times. I've been pondering doing a study of how the Christians lived in early Rome. Wink

Anyway, like Tracy, I'm finding comfort in sticking with the unchanging God and working to share his love as I go about my business. Because all lives do matter, and they all need to know Him.

Just a few random and possibly unrelated thoughts this morning.

Blessings,
Lisa R.

Caroline,

I have no problem with #blacklivesmatter, of course they do. I was referring to some media chatter where some celebrities or politicos used the hashtag #alllivesmatter and they were criticized for diluting the message of #blacklivesmatter. If I, or someone with a big twitter following said #alllivesmatter, I'm trying to be inclusive, but that doesn't seem to be good enough this week. If I am not for #blacklivesmatter--specifically and exclusively, I am against it--and therefore not sympathetic and "missing the point".

Ironically, isn't that the very definition of intolerance? My way or the highway?

This week's events did cause me to remind my daughter's that having your license and registration ready for the police officer that pulls you over is no longer the correct thing. Roll down the window, hands on the steering wheel, and talk to the police officer as you are getting them.

And for what it is worth, it is a passing thought and meant to start a conversation. It doesn't reach into the social climate where we are.

Ok, that makes sense, Tracey.

And I don't mean to start a challenge. It's very interesting to watch from over here (here being the Philippines for another 2 months). I think the social climate aspect of it is perhaps the most difficult aspect of this for people outside to understand. I am looking forward to visiting the states in October and getting a better sense of it, to be honest.

Having black anything is decisive. For example, Black Businessman of the Year. If we had White Businessman of the year that would be racist. Why can't it just be Businessman of the year?

If we want everyone treated exactly the same then we need to treat them exactly the same! We don't need Black History month or Black Lives Matter, or black anything.
