I need a Bible verse for an anniversary card. Sixty five years and the bride is dying of pancreatic cancer. It's my best friend's mom. They have a lovely, devoted marriage and husband is absolutely heartbroken.

Their children have asked that people that love them send anniversary cards for their celebration. She is in the end stages and promised her husband she would make it until their anniversary on the 6th, which is also his birthday.

I am planning on getting Dad a funny bday card with a silly memory in it that they will remember.

The anniversary card I'm planning on a more serious one and would like a Bible verse that speaks to the wonderful example they have set over the years of devotion and companionship to one another.

Ideas? I'm drawing a blank. I think I'm just too close to the situation.

Obviously, she can't.

But so many people really do "hang on" a bit because they don't want to hurt the ones they are leaving behind. I've heard of folks that as soon as the surviving spouse says "it's okay; go on," they will slip into death.

It's a pretty amazing phenomenon, actually.

My mom was a nurse in a nursing home for several years, and she talked about how after Christmas/New Years, there would be a cluster of deaths. Whether consciously or not, people hung on until the holidays were over.

Humbly stepping in here to ask the original question. Can anyone think of an appropriate Bible verse to put in their anniversary card? Very Happy

The idea is generations...I cannot think of a verse, but there is a passage somewhere where hundreds of years later, the people still had godly generations.

Oh Karen, I'm so sorry. What a bittersweet occasion.

I'm not sure what it is that you want to express, but here are a few ideas:

"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a).

"Many waters cannot quench love..." (Song of Solomon 8:7).

"I have found the one whom my soul loves" (Song of Solomon 3:4).

"I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine" (Song of Solomon 6:3).

Thanks Jen. I will read through those and decide. I'm partly dreading picking a card out. Hoping they don't all talk about the years to come. Sad

What an intensely bittersweet occasion. Sad A verse that is comforting in a painful sort of way is Song of Solomon 8:6, "Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame." I think that would be too much, but it's painfully beautiful in this situation.
