DS has to wear navy uniform pants to school. They're now allowed to wear navy uniform shorts now that it's 4th quarter. Well goofy here gave away his uniform shorts from the beginning of the year. I went on walmart .com and bought a very cheap pair. But, I'm thinking maybe cutting off a couple of his pants and making shorts. Anyone done this? I'm assuming I cut and hem. I know it probably depends on the pants but do they look like shorts or pants cut off.

I don't see why you couldn't cut off the pants. I think that would be fine.

Go for it! Especially if you think he'll probably outgrow his long pants before next winter. I used to do this all the time...when my son grew, he always grew UP before he grew OUT...so the pants would be too short, but they still fit in the waist & seat, so they made great shorts.

This was the boy that weighed 125 lbs and was 5 feet tall during the spring of eighth grade...by fall of ninth grade he still weighed 125, but was nearly 6 feet tall! Shocked

Thanks ladies. I'm going to make some shorts this weekend. He should be able to wear these pants in the fall but we're homeschooling next fall and he won't need uniform pants. He has FOUR pairs of navy pants! lol I was going to keep a pair and then give the rest to a friend that has a boy still attending the school in the fall. But, now I'm thinking I'll make two pairs shorts, then give one pair and keep on pair of pants. I'll pass the shorts on to her too if she wants them. I'll just keep one pair for church.

I'm starting to think I'll make shorts out of all of his highwaters. That would save me some money since he REALLY needs shorts.

"One-Hundred Thirty-Six Weeks Times the Number of Children Equals ______?" ... [Y]ou look over their homeschool curriculum, and start to wonder if you are giving them what they will need to compete. Can a home-grown highschool program provide the foundation your children will need, should the Lord tarry?
