My dear husband would love a made-from-scratch chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. He prefers a heavier cake - but very chocolaty! Smile Any favorites out their??

BTW, his birthday is Saturday.

Here is one we really like:

Cake

Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge cake mix
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Make the cake according to package directions, adding the chocolate chips just prior to pouring into pan to bake. Let cake cool.

Frosting

1 1/2 sticks of butter
6 cups of powdered sugar
9 TBS of cocoa powder
1/4 cup plus 1 TBS milk
2 1/4 tsp. vanilla

In a small mixer bowl, beat butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add about half of the powdered sugar and all of the cocoa and beat well. Beat in the milk and the vanilla. Gradually beat in additional powdered sugar until frosting is of spreading consistency. Generously frosts tops and sides of two 8 or 9 in. layers or one 9 x 13 cake.

My all time favorite chocolate cake is on the back of the Hershey's Cocoa Powder! Yummy! and to make it extra rich add about a teaspoon of instant coffee. It enhances the taste of the chocolate. Smile

That is our favorite as well! Good idea about the coffee... I'll have to give that a try next time.
