I would like to find a book or a video to help me teach my 11 year-old twins (a boy and a girl) about s*x. They have a vague understanding of how babies are made (a part from the man meets the egg from the woman and the egg is fertilized and starts growing into a baby, etc). But, they are at the age where they need to know more. They also need to know more about puberty, as it is fast approaching.

I have the American Girl Body Book for my DD, but I don't think it goes into enough detail for her age.

Unfortunately, the books at our library are either for much younger kids without the info I'm looking for or they give a very worldly view on things like p*rn and self-pl*asure to the point of saying it is perfectly normal to look at p*rn.

I would like to talk with my DD and have DH talk with my DS. Whatever resource I hand my DH will have to be very simple because he is completely dreading this conversation. He knows it is needed and has agreed, but looks slightly mortified whenever I talk about it.

Does anyone have a resource they recommend?

I liked the "Story of Me" books. They were gentle and God-focused. It was an easy conversation to just go through the books. For a couple of my kids, I *missed* doing the first book, so we just did two together.

Another thought you might consider, is going through the books, the four of you, and then breaking for questions--you and dd and ds and dh. It can make it more of a "here are the facts, it is nothing to be embarassed about, etc." That lets you and dh present a united front, lets the kids know they can talk to either one of you, and makes sure everyone gets the same information. Your son needs to know about periods and how to help his wife, friend, sister and your daughter needs to know about nocturnal emissions and how visual boys are, etc.

Also consider Passport to Purity, which is specific for boys and girls. IT is set up as a weekend retreat with the parent. It's focus is on purity and why it is important, and not so much on the "how your body works".

Almost twelve is a quick read, just to start the conversation.

An open Book, I don't always use. ... As the newest best sellers appear either on the floor beside my daughter's bed or my wish list, I am convicted that as her mom, God wants ME to discuss marriage issues with her from the word of God.
