We are graduating our daughter October 29. She wants it formal, and is wearing a formal dress she found at consignment store. We are decorating with flowing curtains, heirloom lace tablecloths of her grandmothers, and using the church's fancy vintage punch and cake dishes. Her grandmother, a cake decorator is making a mini column-style cake, even! We'll display some of her art work and have a continual running slide show of pictures through the years, assuming I can get that done in time. We are blessed to have many things borrowed or found at consignment stores to make this budget friendly. Smile

In the meantime, I am feeling "stuck" on the ceremony portion for some reason. I can't hardly remember what we did for her brother and that was only a year and a half ago. I do remember that His Dad and I both said something and then he had a speech as well... but I can't find the speech and have no idea what I said.

Could I have some ideas of what you have done or heard of? (Speech wise or ceremony wise?) She isn't sure about writing a speech, feeling afraid she will leave out someone to thank or something. (I DO think she would do an excellent job if she would try, but I don't want to push the issue either.) I am to the point I don't care either way... I just want to enjoy the day. We do have a diploma for her and I want to present it in some way that would be meaningful. She has grown a lot over the years in her faith and I think that needs to be mentioned, for her sake and encouragement. Maybe you ladies could brainstorm with me?

Quick question, Eve. Is this ceremony part of a homeschool group or will the entire thing be family/friends specifically for your daughter?

Peace

"Fire Begets Fire" ... There is a favorite saying by William Butler Yeats that goes, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Imagine the fire we can light if we first start with prayer!
