Exhaust fan feeling[ 17 vote(s) ]
1.I almost never use my exhaust fan and could do without it. 5 / 29%
2.I don't have an exhaust fan and don't miss it. 1 / 6%
3.I don't have an exhaust fan but wish that I did. 4 / 24%
4.I can't fathom NOT having an exhaust fan above my stove! 6 / 35%
5.Other...please explain. 1 / 6%

Ethan is moving his stove over about a foot, but that makes having an exhaust fan nearly impossible. There's a window about four feet away. I don't see him canning or frying much if at all.
The cabinet guy doesn't seem to think it's necessary. There will be a microwave over the stove (which is electric, btw).
So, I'm wondering how you feel about that.

Our over the stove microwave has a built-in vent fan. It's not attached to duct work anywhere. Dh says it uses a bit of a carbon filter to deal with things. All I know is that it clears the air over my stove quite nicely and I wouldn't like not having it. We don't fry a lot, but even when there's just a lot of steam involved it's nice to have. Or when the kids burn cheese from a pizza in the oven and it starts smoking badly, lol!

I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. ~Phil 3:13-14~

I would get something like Pam mentioned.

Our previous house that we lived in for 19 yrs had a fan that didn't exhaust to the outside & I hated it. However, it didn't have a good filter, plus we had an extremely sensitive smoke alarm. Even with the fan on, if there was more than a tiny bit of smoke, the alarm went off.

Definitely get the microwave with the built in fan (as long as it has a good filter).

Never in my life have I had an exhaust fan. I've survived. It isn't a necessity. (OTOH, I have a "developing country" perspective on the meaning of the word "necessity" Wink )

There have been moments when it would have been nice to have...but it wouldn't be one of the moments when I was cleaning it. Laughing

You ladies are the greatest! I had no idea that an over the range microwave could/would have a fan that didn't need vented outside! You've saved us a lot of concerns! Thank you!
