All I wanted was to find a KJV Bible that doesn't have verse and chapter numbers. Considering this was the original way it was written you would think that something like this would be available. WRONG! I did a Google search and a gazillion other people would like a Bible that reads like a normal book so I am not the only one. I finally found a Kindle download that has the verse number stripped and the text put in normal paragraphs at the points where normal people would make a paragraph break. It still has chapter numbers but hey, I am happy. I wish I could find a real book like this though.

I just want to read the Bible without the distractions of verse numbers breaking up the flow.

I know what you mean - I have looked for that before, also. I'm pretty sure it's because the KJV is copyrighted as is.

I don't believe there is a copyright on the KJV. However, since it was published in the first place with verse numbers, then if you want KJV, yes, there are going to be verse numbers.

There might be other translations, though, that don't have verse numbers...maybe...

There are other translations, but Michele likes KJV if I recall. I know the Message (I know - a paraphrase, not a translation!) doesn't have verse numbers for every verse, just for sections (for reference purposes).

You're probably right. But isn't there a publisher who somehow "guards" it? Or can anyone publish it?

Yes, anyone can publish it. No copyright. It is why The Gideons International uses KJV for its hotel Bibles--they don't have to pay any royalties.

You could do your own in a word processing program...using the global "find and replace" function to remove the numbers.

It would be a hassle for the whole Bible, but you could do a chapter or passage at a time.

Brad had us do that for a Bible study class one time... for just the chapters we were studying.

Remember that in the original languages, you wouldn't have had the same paragraph separations that you have in English, either. Just as a point to consideration.

Blessings,
Lisa R.

Let me add that I couldn't find any translation that was without verse and chapter numbers (not paraphrases but translations) so it isn't just the KJV. I could strip the numbers but that would have 2 problems. One, I would still have to read it on my computer and not in a physical book, and two, it wouldn't be divided in the normal paragraphs (new topic, new paragraph).
