Murrain plague
And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. (Exodus 9:6)

Firstborn plague
And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.
(Exodus 12:29)

If all the cattle were dead from the murrain plague, how were the first born cattle killed in the firstborn plague?

It makes me wonder how much time passed between plagues.

I agree that it must be timing between the plagues. I suspect they didn't happen one right after another, despite Cecil B. DeMille's interpretation. Thinking it through, they would have had time to clean up and recover from one plague, Moses would approach Pharoah, who would again harden his heart and say no, then the next plague would hit. My mere speculation is it took a year or more for all of them to hit.

God is still on the Throne.

I also assume that the powerful Egyptians co-opted the cows belonging to the Israelites.
