I am always the overprotective one...and that's ok!! I'll live with it just fine as my babies are all safe and sound here with me Very Happy

So now the Lord says, "Stop right where you are! Look for the old, godly way; and walk in it. Travel its path and you will find rest for your souls. ~Jer 6:16

Everyone can purchase their freedom by having the courage to forgo the perks of dependency.

I put a combo. I got all the eye-rolling and other responses about what we did and did not let our little kids do, and what we don't let our middle kids do.

But by the time they're 18-20, I'm finding that we're pretty lenient! One of dd's friends' mom was just as appalled at what I allowed my 20 yod to do as I as appalled at how controlling she was of her 19yod! Very Happy

I think that funnel analogy you use brings out interesting reactions. Many folks seem to have the "they're going to be exposed to it anyway, so why not let them do it all at age 5" mentality....and at the opposite end, there are the, "They're my babies and I will control everything in their lives for as long as I can" mentality.

I control when they're little and let go as they grow. People respond to that positively or negatively depending on their own views.

Blessings,
Lisa R.

I'm a combo too! Each child is treated differently over everything & no one but my husband & I understands. We also moved to a different part of the country and don't fit the local mold so much.I've stopped trying to explain & am searching for a new HS group.

I put combo because we know some who think we are way over protective and we know other parents who think we are way liberal in this area.

In the past, I've been considered overly protective. I even had one little girl tell me, "You love your kids too much. You should let them go a bit." Shocked Recently, though, someone who has made "comments" in the past, was surprised at some things that I was letting my dc do. Apparently, she thought that since I didn't let them run loose when they were 5 years old, I would treat them the same way when they were 15. Wink

Well, since we homeschool, most people see us as overprotective just because of that.

I really don't know how others view my parenting.

I don't "care" either since I obviously keep doing exactly what I choose. Very Happy I do, however, have some very vocal friends and family. It doesn't threaten me in the least to have an opposing viewpoint thrown my way. I am free to consider and take/or reject anyone's input.

How Can I Pray? ... Christian parents, who have given their children so much, are amazed to see many of their children literally chuck all their labors of love and devotion. The temptations our children face are horrendous . . .
