The foundation of a good education is a submitted heart; a child who is hard hearted will just become a well-informed heathen." [Support our Advertisers!]

We have a 90 gallon trash container, which is rarely full...but this weekend will have a big graduation party, so the container won't be nearly enough!

Our city also does recycling, so we fill (overfill!) a 60-gallon recycling container every two weeks. We run out of recycling room far more often than trash room.

I also thought about the differences between families -- we have a compost pile, so all food scraps go there. We burn most of our leftover paper to start the wood stove. So most of our trash (1 big bag last week, which is what made me think of it) is probably recyclables, mostly, although our "transfer station" <translation: dump> doesn't really do recycled plastic.

Most weeks we put out one large garbage can (it probably holds 3-4 kitchen bags) and one recycling bin. When we've been cleaning out, there's more.

Sherry can you clarify - Do you mean kitchen barrel bags or outside barrels?

I didn't answer the poll because I'm not sure.
Usually we put out the large city trash can and two recycle bins full. One bin is mostly cardboard and newspapers and the other is plastics and cans. We compost as well, but I don't put papers in there. We used to use all grocery bags for trash, but recently bought a slim trash can with 13gal bags. We empty this 2-3 times a week depending on how stinky it gets or what is in it. The rest of the trash in the can is cat box or bathrooms or paper trash and is emptied into grocery bags.

Ours is a large bag everyday. But we go through so much packaging it is ridiculous. Everything comes individually wrapped and in very small sizes. A good example is the largest bag of flour I can buy is 2 lbs.

There is no recycling, except for the people that go through the garbage.

I was letting people self-define the size of the bags.

We ended up with one bag this last time, but it was a large lawn-and-leaf-sized bag <grin>

According to my dd ( who empties the trash) we use between 5-6 13 gallon bags per week. We burn all paper and stuff like that.

Very soon, we'll be putting the 13 gallon bags into a 30 gal bag and making weekly trips to the dump/recycling center. They charge $1 per bag no matter how big it is! They request that you don't bring more than 10!

We recently moved to a great recycling community. It's wonderful to be able to put most of our packaging in the recyling container. We probably have 2-3 13-gal bags per week for our family of 7.

"Walk As Children of Light" ... Bitterness is deadly. It leads to other sins like resentment, anger, hatred, arrogance. Hebrews 12:15 says, Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.
