Once week our small group from church meets for Bible Study and a meal. We sometimes do potluck but more commonly we have a "theme" and select what we will bring to be sure that we cover the food bases as it were....

We are getting bored with our ideas. We do italian night, mexican night, breakfast, salad night, pizza, chinese night, we have done has to start with the letter "B" that sort of thing and a night with favorites from your childhood.

What creative ideas can you ladies come up with for me.... we are now in a rut!!! alternating italian, burgers, mexican and straight potluck and we are bored with it.

Some constraints we have....one family does not eat "unclean" so no pork or shellfish. Though it is fine to have some dishes "unclean" there must be within the theme a way to have something for them to eat! One person who is gluten intolerant (me! though I can take something for me if needed). And several folks that are not going to be willing to spend extensive time or effort on something exotic to bring....

Hope you can help us....

Blessings,
Sharelle

How about a 'Roots' theme? Everyone brings a dish that reflects their heritage.

You could offer a particular dish and have folks bring ingredients. For example:

Stone Soup (folks bring veggies, meat, herbs, etc for the soup pot)
Kebabs (folks bring chunks of meat, veggies, fruit, etc)
Fondue (bread, veggies, etc)
Tacos/fajitas (bring different meats, veggies, cheese)
Burgers with "the works" (or hot dogs with the same idea)(bring sliced tomatoes, lettuce, fancy mustard, different cheeses, chili, guacamole, etc)
Sandwich platter (everyone contributes cheeses & cold cuts, lettuce, tomato, condiments, breads, etc)
Tempura (bring meats & veggies to cook)
Bagna cauda (An Italian garlic & anchovy dip with olive oil--everyone brings finger veggies or good bread to dip)

How about appetizers only? A good mix of them could easily make a meal.

You could meet after dinner and have a dessert buffet. Or a chocolate party! Smile

Does anybody still do progressive dinners?

How about a baked potato bar -- some people bake potatoes, and other people bring various toppings.

You could also do a rice theme. Some people bring rice, and others bring dishes to eat with rice.

Even sandwiches could work. Have some people bring different types of breads, others bring meat, cheese, condiments, chips, etc.

Bake potato bars are easy and yummy!

What about an organic theme or color theme. I would choose a few colors because a meal of all of one color isn't very appealing to the eyes.

Perhaps everyone could bring something there mother fixed when they were a child?

Finger foods is what we mostly did on our Bible studies nights. Everyone just brought something that would be easy to eat on a paper plate. Often we would have a mix of stuff, none of it really went but everyone was able to find something they liked.
