For more than seven years I have had a simple refrain I rehearsed each time I queried about homeschooling: "If God calls you to it, He will enable and provide. He will not fail. The foundation of a good education is a submitted heart; a child who is hard hearted will just become a well-informed heathen." [Support our Advertisers!]

I've heard people say that 'we are the hands and feet of Jesus in the world today'. Does this come from a Bible verse? If so, where? or is it just one of those cultural expressions based loosely on the general concept of the church as the body of Christ?

I think it comes from the general understanding of us being His body. Since a body has hands and feet, and Paul speaks of hands and feet in regards to our spiritual gifting, it is not an inaccurate metaphor.

Like Kate said -- there is a general understanding -- 1 Corinthians 12

Quote:

BODY OF CHRIST

A phrase used in three senses in the Bible:

1. The phrase refers to the physical body of Jesus. Not to believe He has had such a human body is heresy (1 John 4:3). His glorified body is the model for the resurrection bodies of Christians (Phil 3:21).

2. "Body of Christ" is used of the bread of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 10:16).

3. The apostle Paul uses the phrase as a symbol of the church. In Rom 12:14-15 and 1 Cor 12:12-27, he emphasizes the church's unity, even though there are varied gifts, ministries, and personalities. In Eph 4:4-12 and Col 1:18-24 Christ as the head of the church is the focus of Paul's ministry.

Ok thanks. I agree that it is a good metaphor, but if there isn't an actual "verse" to quote, it makes it difficult to use in my essay references! (Essay due Friday) So I think I'll just take it out or modify it - I thought there was a direct verse to quote.

Corinthians Chapter 12 is the best reference, I think.

1Cr 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

"Breaking the Grip of Griping" ... "Griping is a hallowed American privilege. From protesting the ump's call, to criticizing those who govern us, we are free to complain. Americans are free to say what is on their minds, but American Christians might pause and remember that complaining -- even in a soft voice -- is simply say God has not done enough for me; I deserves more than what God has provided."
