Prosciutto is a dry-cured ham. Traditionally thought of as an Italian ham. It is sold in the deli and is sliced paper thin. It has a taste unlike most other hams. I love using is in several recipes. Especially wrapped around cantelope slices and drizzled with balsamic vinegar, Yum!

Here's a little info.... http://www.lifeinitaly.com/food/prosciutto.asp

Yep, you find it in the deli section or the section where they sell little packages of specialty meat & cheeses for real exhorbiant prices. Shocked

Or you drive down to the Cities and stop at Trader Joe's and get it in three flavors! I'm partial to the rosemary myself...

"Honey, my most beloved husband, how about we head to Italy so as to have some prosciutto?"

I'm just positive he'd say 'yes' Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
AFTER he asked what it was too!!!

Oh, I *hate* to say this, for fear you will all be jealous (jk) Very Happy BUT....

My Dad's grandparents came from Italy and have passed down the prosciutto-making process. So every year my Dad makes a couple hams.

Personally, I can not stand the taste of it, never could. Guess I'm just not really Italian. Rolling Eyes But the rest of my family loves it, including my 2 yo nephew.

I don't think it's that hard to make, if you don't mind hanging whole hams in your basement for a few months. Laughing

It is hard to find here in my "neck of the woods" but I have had it wrapped around asparagus spears, sprinkled with EVOO and baked in the oven. All I have to say is it was worth the expense. Yum!
