Quotes to Ponder
Don't Walk Away
No, the kitchen ceiling fan did not come crashing down from the force of my stomping feet upstairs. I was having a tantrum. I wanted to stay home, but my dear husband said we were going. I would go, but he was going to know it was against my "better" judgment.
Guess what? I was right in that it would have been easier to stay home, but then Bob never did say it was going to be pleasant, just that we were going. He turned out to be completely right. The Lord wanted us there to teach us, to become more dependent upon Him, to desire Him more and more.
In His Imprint My Expression, Kay Arthur writes ...
If you are a child of God and have been miserable, dissatisfied, or unable to cope, it is because you have left the cross.
Life is there--at the cross. Nowhere else.
Peace is there--at the cross. Nowhere else.
Purpose is there--at the cross, where you find your reason for living.
If you have been miserable, dissatisfied, unable to cope, it's because you have walked away in disbelief. If you ever want your deepest needs met, you can't walk away! If you ever want to fill that void within, you can't walk away!
If your happiness is wrapped up in pleasing God--in doing His will, in serving His purposes--then no person, except you, can take your happiness away. Jesus will be your joy, and the joy of the Lord will be your strength.
I'm so thankful for my husband who withstood my complaints, my stomping around, my "better" judgment. He stood firm in the grace of God and, because of that, we walked in God's will. I'm thankful for the friends that prayed for me as I struggled. They knew the anguish I was going through, the temptation I faced to be disobedient vs. the grace I needed to withstand a difficult situation. I'm thankful for the Word of God which ministered to me. Here are some of the Scriptures that helped me to be obedient, to not walk away ...
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. - 1 Peter 5:6-7
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. - Hebrews 13:6
Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. - Isaiah 50:10
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. - John 12:25-26
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. - James 1:2-4
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. - Romans 5:1-5
