A Life in My Hand

Sunday morning I came upon a baby hummingbird on the ground. What should I do, or not do, for this baby bird no longer than 2 inches and looking quite helpless? What hope did it have to live beyond today, or even the morning? What a day it woke up to. First, to find itself falling from its nest (by accident or perhaps it was a fledgling not really ready to fly); next, to land full force onto the ground; and then to find itself face-to-face with me.

I waited to see if the baby bird would fly, if it was hurt or stunned, if a mother bird was around. Finally, I decided to take it home, put it in a lined, ventilated box and try to find someone who could help it. On a Sunday, not many places are open and those I did get in touch with did not have any bird rehabilators available. I even tried the Internet, searching for bird rehabilators and hummingbirds. I ended up with some simple instructions and no leads for help.

The baby bird died late last evening. I cried. In His Imprint My Expression, Kay Arthur writes ...

The will of God for your life is simply that you submit yourself to Him each day and say, "Father, Your will for today is mine. Your pleasure for today is mine. Your work for today is mine. I trust You to be God. You lead me today and I will follow."

Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow or reap or store away in barns; and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? - Matthew 6:26 (NIV)
