Faith 'Struck Blind'

I wrote down that title once when I was using Elisabeth Elliot's A Lamp for My Feet as my morning devotional. She was referring to the need to have tangible proofs. She writes ...

Being very much of the earth--earthy--we always want tangible, visible things--proofs, demonstrations, something to latch onto. If we always had them, of course, faith would be "struck blind."

Do you ever want to strike your faith blind? Come on now, be honest! *grin* Don't you want to know, say, how your children are going to "turn out" after all your homeschool efforts? Oh, but the Lord has a great purpose in not giving us the the quick, tangible answer. One reason could be we are learning the lesson to quietly watch as our children grow. Mrs. Elliot says ...

Very possibly we often miss what God wants to show us because we don't take time to pray silently and watch quietly.

Let's not strike our faith blind by impatiently doubting the work we do as homeschool parents, by questioning the direction the Lord is taking us. If it is His leading we are following then we can know that He delights in bringing us "finally, not to ruin, but to glory." (From A Lamp for My Feet) Mrs. Elliot continues ...

[God] is always doing something--the very best thing, the thing we ourselves would certainly choose if we knew the end from the beginning. He is at work to bring us to our full glory.

Let us have faith in abundance!!

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory - 1 Corinthians 2:7

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:18

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: - 1 Peter 1:7

Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. - Psalm 119:90-91
